JJC Steinway Benefit Concert March 27

Joliet Junior College will host an afternoon of instrumental and vocal performances on Sunday, March 27, to raise funds to purchase the college’s first Steinway grand piano.

The concert, which will be held to support JJC’s Steinway Piano 88 Key Campaign, will feature a variety of genres including jazz, classical, ragtime, and tango performed by faculty, alumni, students and guests, including a vocal performance by 2010 American Idol singer and JJC alumna Paige DeChausse.

Other performers include JJC faculty Dr. Daniela Broderick, David Nuccio, Adam Cowger and Bonnie Johansen-Werner; Florentina Ramniceanu, violinist from the Orion Ensemble; former piano faculty member Sue Malmberg; JJC students, and the JJC Percussion Ensemble.

In addition, a reception sponsored by the JJC Foundation will be held during intermission with hors d’oeuvres made by the college’s nationally-renowned Culinary Arts Department.

The event will begin at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Rd in Joliet. Tickets are $10 each.

Other opportunities to support the campaign include the purchase of a key on the piano keyboard for $750. By purchasing one or more keys, the donor’s name will appear on the college’s keyboard donor wall, in addition to receiving an invitation to a private donors’ reception. Support at any level is welcomed.

“What is great about this concert is that by purchasing the $10 ticket, or by making an additional donation, every member of the audience will know that they helped on the purchase of this piano, a piano that will be used for years and years to come and enjoyed by the students and by that same audience that will be coming back to so many of our great musical events,” Broderick said.
