Raw Food Nutrition Workshop March 30

Looking for a healthy alternative to coffee or carbonated sugary drinks?

Catherine Anderson, professor of hospitality management, says green smoothies are a healthy alternative that can help boost your immune system and mental performance. Green smoothies are just one of several food options that will be discussed at the upcoming Healthy Chefs Meeting on March 30, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in J-0016 on the Main Campus.

Kristen Gurnitz Bernier, a raw food nutrition educator, will be on hand to discuss the raw food movement and how it can affect your body. She will also be demonstrating how to make juices and green shakes.

Can’t wait to try a green smoothie? Anderson recommends the following recipe:

In your blender put:

– 2 ripe bananas
(yellow, not green – be sure to peel them first)

– 1/2 cup of another fruit
(pineapple, blueberry, apple, peach, mango)

– 1 1/2 cup fresh greens
(3 kale, 3 chard leaves, or 1 handful spinach)

– 1 pint/ 16 oz. water
(or to desired consistency)

Optional, if it is not sweet enough:
– 2 or more dates with the pit removed)

Blend it up, just enough to make it smooth and creamy without heating it up and enjoy!
(Makes about 32 ounces)
