Local Nutritionist Gives Talk on Raw Food Benefits, Recipes

The JJC Healthy Chefs Club held a raw food discussion and demonstration on March 30 where raw food nutrition educator Kristen Gurnitz Bernier explained the benefits of a raw food diet and demonstrated how to make a green smoothie and juice.

Bernier teaches raw food nutrition in the community as well as demonstrates recipes, offers pantry cleanouts, grocery shop-a-longs and menu planning.

Here are two of her recipes:

Green Smoothie
1 young coconut, milk and meat
1/2 pineapple, peeled, cored and cut into cubes
1 frozen banana
2 cups of baby spinach
In a blender, add all ingredients and blend.

Green Juice
1 pear
1 apple
1/4 pineapple
4 stalks of kale
1 cucumber
Using a juicer, juice each ingredient.
