JJC Partners with Allied Waste in New Recycling Program

By partnering with Allied Waste in handling the removal of trash and recyclables from all JJC campuses, the college is making an effort to support environmentally conscious behavior.

Blue recycling bins located throughout campus are available for the recycling needs of students, faculty and staff. Single stream recycling bins allow all recyclable material to be placed in the same container. Items will then be sorted at the plant.

Items that can be recycled include:

  • Paper- newspapers, magazines, cereal boxes, grocery bags, envelopes and boxes (but not Styrofoam packing peanuts)
  • Glass- clear, brown, green and blue, please rinse but do not remove labels.
  • Aluminum cans- please rinse and flatten.
  • Tin/steel and bi-metal cans- no paint or household chemical cans. Please remove labels, rinse, and flatten if possible.
  • Plastics- most, with a few exceptions. Please see the Allied Waste link for a list of which plastics cannot be recycled.

Other items that cannot be recycled include:

  • Wood
  • Tissue paper
  • Carbon paper
  • Foil wrap/bows/ribbons
  • Hard cover books
  • Paper towels
  • Paper plates
  • Pots and pans
  • Wire
  • Toys
  • Pizza boxes
  • Aluminum siding
  • Food-covered items and food waste
  • Waxed paper
  • Wax cardboard
  • Fabrics

There are more ways to recycle than some realize. Even batteries, tires, light bulbs and computers can be recycled.
