Local Students Celebrated at Joliet Junior College Honors Event

Eighteen Joliet Junior College students were recognized at the annual Honors Program Graduation Celebration this spring at the historic Joliet Junior College Renaissance Center.

For 24 years, the college’s Honors Program has supported students in all majors that want to achieve academic success through challenging, stimulating coursework and extracurricular activities.

Seven students completed the rigorous requirements to graduate with full institutional honors, a distinction of both grade point average and course work.

They are: Paul Cepela of Crest Hill; Flor Cerda of Joliet; Gina DiNovo of New Lenox; Cassandra Edler of Joliet; Lindsey Kelderhouse of Frankfort; Rachel Stella of Channahon; and Hannah Zuber of Peotone.

Participating members of the Honors Program include Zachary Ferlin of New Lenox; Amy Lilek of Joliet; Amanda Reimer of Joliet; Nashdira Rueda of Joliet; Sarah Sampson of Plainfield; Mercedes Sanchez of Joliet; Zinsou Sossou of Joliet; Gloria Vivanco of Minooka; Allison Wysock of Shorewood; Nicholas Young of Lockport; and Taylor Zilinskas of Tinley Park.

Six students were also awarded with $2,000 scholarships from Midwest Generation at the event. They are Paul Cepela; Cassandra Edler; Patrick Ezeadikwa; Lindsey Kelderhouse; Rachel Stella; and Hannah Zuber.
