34th Annual Holiday Madrigal Concert

The Joliet Junior College (JJC) Fine Arts Department will present its 34th Annual Holiday Madrigal Concert, “MadriGala 2011: Something Olde, Something Yule!” on Friday, Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet.

MadriGala 2011 will feature merry madrigals and carols, pageantry, dance, and humor, performed by the 24-member JJC Chamber Singers, the Brass Quintet, and Jesters.

Between the two halves of the concert, a selection of savory hors d’oeuvres and delightful desserts will be served on the bridge, prepared by the nationally acclaimed JJC Culinary Arts Department under the supervision of Chef Fred Ferrara.

Philip Spencer, director of choral and vocal music at JJC, will serve as musical director of MadriGala.  He is also conductor of the JJC Chamber Singers, the college’s auditioned choral ensemble, which will perform a number of traditional madrigals as well as seasonal carols from around the world in several languages.

The JJC Brass Quintet, under the direction of Charles Morgan, director of bands and brass, will provide Renaissance and seasonal instrumental music during the reception.  The MadriGala staff also includes Dr. Zachary Bloomfield, drama director and stage manager, and Nicki Blowers, technical director.
