JJC Community Band Winter Concert Dec. 4

The Joliet Junior College (JJC) Community Band will perform its annual Winter Concert on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.
 
The concert, under the direction of Charles Morgan, JJC music coordinator and director of bands, will offer something for everyone including marches, transcriptions and original compositions.
 
The first half of the concert will feature “Mystic Call” by Karl L. King; “Morning Noon and Night in Vienna” overture by Franz von Suppe, arranged by Henry Fillmore; “Romance” from the film “The Gadfly” by Dmitri Shostakovich, arranged by James Wetherbee; and “Angels in the Architecture” by Frank Tickeli.The second half of the show will include “March of the Toys” by Victor Herber, arranged by Herbert L. Clarke; “Catalan Christmas Suite No. 2” by Paul Karvonen; “Minor Alterations” by David Lovrien; “Away in a Manger” arranged by Tom Wallace; and “The Polar Express” arranged by Jerry Brubaker.  The concert will conclude with “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.
 
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for JJC faculty and staff, non-JJC students, and senior citizens, and $2 for JJC students.
 
The JJC Community Band is a 100-member instrumental ensemble that is open to community members of at least high school age.  There is no entrance audition and participants may register for course credit or choose to take part for no credit.
