JJC Community Band Winter Jazz Concert Dec. 2

The Joliet Junior College (JJC) Jazz Band will perform its annual Winter Jazz Concert on Friday, Dec 2, in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.
The concert begins with a special guest—the Coal City High School Jazz Band—at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre.
The JJC Jazz Band, led by Charles Morgan, JJC music coordinator and director of bands, will perform a number of jazz songs and arrangements along with several student solos.
The band will perform “Lullaby of Birdlan” arranged by John Wasson; “Groovemeister” by Les Hooper; “The Very Best of Times” and “Work in Progress” by Gordon Goodwin; “The Groove Broker” and “The Bombers” by Andy Farber; “Indigo Hippo” by Collins-Dowden; “Livin’ Larger than Life” by Alan Baylock; “Blue Samuel” by Sammy Nestico; and “Jingle Bells” arranged by Ernie Wilkins.
Student soloists will include Mark Grossi of Aurora on alto sax; Ron Magiera of New Lenox, Steve Grabavoy of Aurora, and Tyler Peck of New Lenox on trumpet; Janice Murphy of Orland Park on piano; James Stegall of Joliet on percussion; Jake Cepela of Crest Hill on bass; and Nancy Lehman of Joliet and Jeff Thompson on tenor saxophone.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, non-JJC students, JJC faculty and staff and $2 for JJC students.
The JJC Jazz Band is a community jazz band and is open to community members of at least high school age.  There is no audition fee and participants may register for course credit or choose to take part for no credit.  The group meets on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9:45 p.m. each semester.
