JJC Hosts Exhibition by Michael Ruback Jan. 17 through Feb. 10

Joliet Junior College (JJC) will host an exhibition of works by artist Michael Ruback, Jan. 17 through Feb. 10 in the Laura A. Sprague Gallery on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.
The exhibit will showcase a collection of pieces ranging from bronze sculpture to mixed media. His collection focuses on hands, a reoccurring theme throughout his works.
“Everyone communicates through his or her hands,” he says. “What I’m trying to say is about being human—nothing political or specific to a particular group—just what it means to be human.”
The Chicago native initially trained in music, studying piano theory and composition at the American Conservatory of Music and Roosevelt University in Chicago. However, shortly after transferring to Southern Illinois University he shifted his focus to sculpture and graduated with a bachelor’s degree.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. The gallery, which is located on the second floor of J-Building, will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
