Jazz Band Spring Concert May 4

The Joliet Junior College (JJC) Jazz Band will perform its annual Spring Jazz Concert on Friday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.
The concert begins with special guest the Romeoville North High School Jazz Band. Then, the JJC Jazz Band, led by Charles Morgan, JJC music coordinator and director of bands, will perform a number of jazz songs and arrangements along with several student solos.
The band will perform “Duly Noted” by Jeff Jarvis; “Stolen Moments” by Oliver Nelson; “Hunting Wabbits” by Gorden Goodwin; “Truth” by Bob Mintzer; “Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise” by Dave Rivello; “Moanin” by Charles Mingus; “If You Could See Me Now” arrangement by Bill Holman; and “Papiro” by Michael Philip Mossman.
Student soloists will include Mark Grossi and Chad Taylor on alto sax; Nancy Lehman and Jeff Thompson on tenor sax; Kerry Erb on baritone sax; Ron Magiera and Steve Grabavoy on trumpet, Armando Acetis on trombone; Janice Murphy and Andy Gent on piano; John Juhant on guitar; James Stegall, Dana Goodman, and John Fornino on percussion; and Jake Cepela on bass.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, non-JJC students, JJC faculty and staff and $2 for JJC students.
The JJC Jazz Band is an instrumental ensemble comprised of students and is open to community members of at least high school age. There is no audition fee and participants may register for course credit or choose to take part for no credit. The group meets on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9:45 p.m. each semester.
