President’s Perspective: Graduation is my Favorite Day of the Year

Graduation day is Friday! I can feel the excitement building as we approach the day of the commencement ceremony. It is truly my favorite day of the school year. As I remember my past graduation experience, the anticipation and excitement is palpable as we march into the field house to start the ceremony.President
As I turn to face the audience of friends and family I see in their faces the hopes and dreams that each has for their loved one on this day. They hope that their graduate’s life will be better, happier, and more successful because they have accomplished this education goal. I feel the waves of energy pour over me throughout the ceremony and it reminds me of the day that I first graduated with my associate degree.
I was the first in my family to graduate from college and my family was so happy and hopeful for me just like many of our students and their families. It also reminds me of why we go to work every day—so that students and their families can celebrate on commencement day.
On Friday, May 18, 2012, over 500 students will attend the commencement ceremony. Their graduation is a tribute to you the faculty and staff who worked with them every day so that they could be successful. Thank you for your dedication to our students! I hope to see you at the ceremony and we can celebrate together.
