Two JJC Students Named to Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team

Two JJC students were honored at the 14th Annual Phi Theta Kappa Banquet for being named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team on April 18 in Springfield.Two JJC Students Named to Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team
 
JJC students Maggie Leake and Thomas Armstrong were among 81 students representing 42 community colleges throughout Illinois who were recognized for their academic achievements, leadership and involvement in the community.
 
The All-Illinois Academic Team recognizes academic achievement and service to both college and community, and is sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, two-year college presidents, and community college state associations.
 
Leake has a 3.95 GPA, is vice president of scholarship for the Alpha Lambda Phi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, a member of the Honors Program and spends her free time volunteering at Just Animals Shelter in Mazon, Ill. She will transfer to the Mississippi University for Women.
 
Armstrong has a 4.0 GPA and is the co-president for the Alpha Lambda chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. He will transfer to Illinois State University and study chemistry with an emphasis in biochemistry. He aspires to have a career as a biochemist and eventually teaching in higher education.
