Trustee Jeff May read the resolution, stating that Wilhelmi had been a tireless advocate for education, job creation, and economic development.

Wilhelmi, who served as the state senator for the 43rd district, was also instrumental in helping the college’s Department of Adult and Family Services secure literacy grant funding totaling $45,000, which now serves 135 students and trains over 50 literacy volunteers each year.

Wilhelmi also championed the college’s Small Business Development Center, where he was instrumental in supporting a business-to-business exchange for transportation and construction which provided opportunities for contractors to meet owners of Disadvantaged Business Enterprise companies in 2011.

“One of the particular privileges I enjoyed in my seven years in the senate was partnering with organizations and individuals that have a passion for their mission,” said Wilhelmi. “It was such an honor and pleasure to work with you on your mission of providing skills and education so that thousands of men and women can enjoy a productive, fruitful and meaningful career and provide for their families. This honor and recognition means a great deal to me, and I can’t thank you enough for your kindness.”
