Physics Expert Dr. Diandra Leslie-Pelecky to Give Talk About NASCAR Racing Oct. 26

Dr. Diandra Leslie-Pelecky, author of “The Physics of NASCAR”, will give a presentation entitled “The Science of Speed: Why Driving Fast Isn’t as Easy as You Think” Friday, Oct. 26 from 8 to 9 p.m. in the theatre on Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Physics Expert Dr. Diandra Leslie-Pelecky to Give Talk About NASCAR Racing Oct. 26 Rd. in Joliet. The presentation is free and open to the public.
This popular science talk is aimed at a general audience, and no physics background is required. Dr. Leslie-Pelecky will show how drivers cannot win races without getting math and science right.
A professor of physics at West Virginia University, Dr. Leslie-Pelecky’s research focuses on magnetic nanomaterials – particles with diameters just a few thousandths the thickness of a human hair. Her worked has been covered in outlets as diverse as the New York Times Science Times and Sports Illustrated, as well as in professional society publications such as C&EN and the Materials Research Society Bulletin.
