JJC Staff and Trustees Attend National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.

President Dr. Deb Daniels, Board Chair Jeff May, Student Trustee Keith Bryant and Director of Communications and External Relations Kelly Rohder traveled to Washington, D.C. Feb. 11 to 14 to attend the National Legislative Summit.JJC Staff and Trustees Attend National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.
 
The summit, sponsored by the American Community College Trustees organization and the American Association of Community Colleges, brought together representatives from community colleges across the nation to meet with legislators and lobby for community colleges.

Throughout the week, the group attended seminars and met with legislators on Capitol Hill to discuss issues in higher education and community college federal legislative priorities, including preserving PELL grant funding, reauthorizing the Workforce Investment Act funding, and reauthorizing the Higher Education Act, to name a few.

They also met with Congressman Randy Hultgren’s education aide, Dick Durbin, Dan Lipinski and Bill Foster. Student Trustee Keith Bryant selected to be Bill Foster’s special guest at the Feb. 12 State of the Union address.
