The 3 p.m. concert will be at the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, located at 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet. There is no cost to attend the concert.
Broderick will be performing on the college’s Steinway grand piano. She will play a piece she has always wanted to use for a performance, but has never had the chance — “Pictures at the Exhibition,” by Modest Mussorgsky. Broderick will also perform “Piano Quintet” by Rimsky-Korsakov. Members of the Lewis University Wind Quintet will accompany her.
Broderick said approximately 150-200 guests are in the audience during a typical “Musica Viva” recital.
“It’s an opportunity to hear quality music for free,” Broderick said, adding that the community has always been supportive. Broderick performs at least once in the “Musica Viva” series every year.
In addition to performing at JJC, Broderick has also performed throughout the United States and Brazil. She holds a D.M.A. in piano performance from the University of Illinois.
Broderick hopes students attending the recital will walk away with something new.
“They should learn a lot,” she said. “Being a teacher, we teach the students how to play, but we also set an example so that they can aspire to do the same.”
