Free Gospel Music Choral Workshop, Chamber Singers and Chorale Concert May 11

The Joliet Junior College Chamber Singers and Chorale, under the direction of Professor of Music Philip Spencer, will present their Masterwork Concert on Saturday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus.Free Gospel Music Choral Workshop, Chamber Singers and Chorale Concert May 11
 
Entitled “Sehnsucht” (longing), the program will feature “Requiem” by John Rutter, one of the world’s best-loved 20th century major choral works. Joining the JJC choirs will be members of the Chancel Choir from St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Naperville. The combined 70 voices will be accompanied by a chamber ensemble and student soloists.
 
Earlier that day, the public is also invited to attend a free gospel music choral workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre. The workshop will be led by the internationally renowned composer and conductor Dr. Keith Hampton, founder and artistic director of the Chicago Community Chorus.
 
Dr. Hampton will also lead the choirs in singing two of his compositions at the evening concert. In addition to “Requiem” and Dr. Hampton’s gospel pieces, the choirs will also perform works by Brahms, Spencer, Schultz and Barnes.
 
Tickets for the Masterwork Concert are available at the door one hour before the performance. They are $5 general, $4 seniors, JJC Faculty and staff, and non-JJC students, and $2 JJC students. All high school students attending the afternoon workshop will receive a free ticket to the evening concert.
