JJC Athletics Begins “Reading with the Wolves” Campaign

Joliet Junior College baseball and softball players spent an afternoon reading with first graders at Rockdale Elementary School last month, kicking off the JJC Athletic Department’s “Reading with the Wolves” campaign.

This campaign will really begin to take off in the fall, with more elementary school visits anticipated — and the simple goal of encouraging young learners to read.JJC Athletics Begins "Reading with the Wolves" Campaign

“The Joliet Junior College Athletic Department is proud to begin our ‘Reading with the Wolves’ campaign,” said Wayne King Jr., JJC athletic director. “We are excited to promote JJC Athletics and the importance of reading within our surrounding communities.”

Both King and Stephanie Kneip, sports information director, said they have hopes of making this new campaign permanent if it continues to go well. Kneip said JJC athletes are great role models to the younger students.

When the baseball and softball players visited Rockdale Elementary in April, Kneip said the first graders were excited to see the older students — especially because they were wearing their baseball and softball jerseys.

In the future, Kneip said the “Reading with the Wolves” campaign would include all types of JJC athletes making visits to area elementary schools.
