JJC to Hold Spring Graduation Ceremony May 17 at Lewis University

Joliet Junior College will hold its 97th spring commencement ceremony on Friday, May 17 at 6 p.m. in the Lewis University Fieldhouse, One University parkway in Romeoville.  JJC to Hold Spring Graduation Ceremony May 17 at Lewis University
This is the fourth JJC graduation ceremony to be held at Lewis University. Due to overcrowding in the gym and increasing numbers of graduates, the college approved the venue change to Lewis University at its October 2009 Board of Trustees meeting to accommodate a sufficient number of guests for each graduate.
More than 450 graduates are expected to participate in this year’s ceremony.
This year’s featured student speaker is Rebecca Turcios, a JJC biology major who has dreams of becoming a veterinarian. In December 2012, she completed a semester-long internship at Brookfield Zoo’s Australia House.
Turcios, of Plainfield, chose to attend JJC to be close to her support system, made up of family and friends. Attending JJC has not only encouraged Turcios to do well, but the professors and classes made her feel that she can do anything.
“My goals are so much bigger now,” she said. “If it wasn’t for JJC, I wouldn’t be so ambitious. I wouldn’t be so excited and thirsty to challenge myself.”
As student speaker, Turcios hopes to encourage her fellow students by telling them that everyone is special and unique.
Additionally, two JJC students will be honored with the Student Service Recognition Award: Heather Leann Domanski and Antonio M. Franco. The award recognizes individual student involvement at JJC and in the community.
