MYSO to perform at JJC on May 19

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) will perform at the Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet, on Sunday, May 19 at 4 p.m. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door.

Out of the 60 students involved, one is JJC student Wendy Chappell, four are from Lewis University, and the remainders are high school students from 20 local communities.

Audiences will be treated to two musical pieces: “Weber Concertino in E Flat Major,” and “Dvorak Symphony No. 9.”

“We only had six rehearsals, and so they really had to work hard for this concert,” said Pam Nogal of MYSO. “The kids are talented and they work at it – they have to. They love what they do.”

Nogal said she enjoys seeing parents of young children in the audience. Attending a MYSO concert is a perfect opportunity for them to expose their children to classical music without traveling very far.

MYSO also loves performing at JJC, Nogal said.

“I can’t say enough good things about our relationship with JJC,” she added. “Throughout the years, they’ve been fantastic.”

After this weekend, MYSO’s next performance at JJC will be on Sunday, Oct. 27.

For more information about the concert, Nogal can be reached at 630-257-2733.
