JJC Community Band to Host Winter Concert Dec. 15

The Joliet Junior College Community Band invites everyone to celebrate the season at its annual winter concert in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus at 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. The band, under the direction of Music Coordinator and JJC Director of Bands Charles Morgan, will perform a variety of music at the concert, from marches and transcripts to original compositions.

The JJC Community Band performs a winter concert in 2010.

“The JJC Community Band is proud to be celebrating more than 35 years of musical excellence,” Morgan said. “We hope everyone can attend this exciting concert, beautifully performed by some of the area’s finest musicians.”

The JJC Community Band is a 85-member ensemble of local residents, JJC students, and faculty. The band performs twice a year – once in the winter, and once in the spring.

The schedule of the winter concert is as follows:

First Half

  • “Brook’s Chicago Marine Band March” by Roland Seitz
  • “The Tsar’s Bride” by Rimsky-Korsakov
  • “Dier’ In De” arranged by Warren Barker
  • “Sea to Sky,” a Suite for Concert Band by Ralph Ford

Second Half

  • “Gloria” by Randol Alan Bass
  • “Foundation” by Mark Camphouse
  • “Allerseelen (All Souls Day)” by Richard Strauss and guest directed by Jerry E. Lewis, JJC Community Band Founder, retired JJC department chair and music professor
  • “Santa’s Journey (Bringing Joy to the World)” by Roy W. Kaighin
  • “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson

Admission to the concert is $5 for adults; $4 for JJC faculty and staff, students, and senior citizens; and $2 for JJC students.
