Joliet Junior College invites the community to register for its 6th annual JJC Foundation 5K Run and Walk, scheduled on Saturday, May 3, to raise money for student scholarships and college programs.
A $100 cash award will be granted to the top overall male and female winner, and the top three winners in each age and gender category will receive a medal.
The 3.1 mile race starts at 9 a.m., with registration opening at 7:30 a.m. The course is a certified flat loop pavement course primarily located on JJC’s Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.
In addition to the 5K, there will also be a one-mile kids’ race for ages 12 and under that begins at 8:30 a.m.
The entry fee for the 5K is $25 through April 25 and $30 after that date. The kids’ race fee is $10 through race day. Participants in both events will receive a T-shirt.
Those interested can register online at www.jjc.edu/info/5K.
Last year’s event raised a record-breaking $40,000, and included 320 participants. There were 40 children who ran in the one-mile kids’ race.
“Last year’s 5K run/walk was our biggest race yet,” said Amanda Quinn, alumni relations and annual fund manager. “We’re hoping that this year’s will be even better.”
