JJC Partners with University of St. Francis, Lewis University in Relay for Life April 12

Joliet Junior College will bring a group of eager teams to this year’s “Relay For Life of North Will All College” celebration, beginning Saturday, April 12 at 6 p.m. The community is welcome to help JJC teams by donating to the American Cancer Society at www.relayforlife.org. All those who donate should enter in the event name, “Relay for Life of North Will All College,” and click on the team they want to support.

Every year, JJC partners with sister institutions Lewis University and the University of St. Francis in the 12-hour event. Relay for Life will take place at the Lewis Field House at 1 University Parkway in Romeoville, Ill.

Last year, JJC came out on top – with the JJC Nursing Student Association (NSA) raising the most out of all 37 participating teams. NSA’s team, “Pirates of the CUREbbean” raised $2,450. Together, all three schools raised $21,683.99.

JJC Coordinator of Student Activities and Holistic Wellness Amy Sims said Relay for Life is a fun, enthusiastic night filled with love, hope, and positivity. She added that the affair is also somber, especially during the luminary ceremony, when participants’ loved ones who have passed away from cancer are honored. The luminaries also honor and represent those who are still fighting cancer.

“I think it’s a wonderful community event with our sister institutions here in the Joliet and Romeoville area,” said Sims. “I believe the student participation is a way for them to step up and support their community as a whole, support their family, friends, and loved ones.”
