Lt. Governor Visits JJC To Support Community College Film Competition

Lt. Governor Shelia Simon visited the JJC Main Campus on Saturday, March 8 in support of the Reel Illinois Community College Film Competition training seminar that was held at JJC.

The film competition, in its first year ever, is for Illinois community college students, and asks them to create five-minute films about their colleges, community, or a local small business. The state-wide competition is co-sponsored by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) and the Chicago International Social Change Film Festival. The goal of the competition is to enhance school engagement, pride and awareness.

Simon, an advocate of community colleges who previously visited JJC in 2011, attended the seminar to show her support for the project and the participants, which included students from JJC in addition to several other Illinois community colleges.

JJC Trustee Jeff May also attended the event on Saturday.

The winners of the competition will be chosen in September, with the world premier of the winning films in October during the Association of Community College Trustees’ annual Leadership Congress.
