JJC Fine Arts Hosts Annual Spring Jazz Concert May 2

The Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Department will present its annual Spring Jazz Concert on Friday, May 2,  at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet. The concert will feature the college’s Jazz Band under the direction of Mr. Charles Morgan, and will include guest band Plainfield South High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Christopher Jamrose, which will open the concert.

The JJC Jazz Band will perform “The Heat’s On!” and “The Four of Us” by Sammy Nestico, “Knarf” by Michael Abene, “Like Someone In Love” by Johnny Burke, “New to Say” by Rick Stitzel, “Blue Brews” by Dave Hanson, “Louisiana Be-Bop” by Les Hoopper, “Brass Machine” by Mark Taylor, “Song for A.E.G.” by Tom Garling, and “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” by Randy Newman.

Student soloists will include Mark Grossi of Naperville on alto sax; Chad Taylor of Ottawa and Nancy Lehman of Joliet on tenor saxophone; Kerry Erb of Joliet on baritone sax; Ron Magiera of New Lenox and Dave Griesmer of Frankfort on trumpet; Terry Viano of Diamond, Dennis Galle of New Lenox, Armando Acetis of Channahon, and William Cooper of Joliet on trombone; Haley Piccola of Braidwood is the vocalist; and Janice Murphy plays piano.

Admission is $5 for adults; $4 for senior citizens, non-JJC students, JJC faculty and staff; and $2 for JJC students.

The JJC Jazz Band is a community jazz band and participation is open to all residents of District 525 who play a typical jazz band instrument. The group meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:45 p.m. each semester. The class may be taken for credit or non-credit.
