JJC Student government members and 83 first-semester nursing students visited Springfield on Wednesday, April 2 to take part in Student Advocacy Day.
The nursing students took part in Student Nurse Political Action Day, sponsored by the American Nurses Association of Illinois. They were taught about the current bills being discussed in both houses of the General Assembly that affect health care and their future practice as nurses. They also participated in a march to the capital rallying for nurses.
The nursing students met with Rep. Ann Williams, Rep. Larry Walsh, Jr., and Illinois Republican Majority Leader Jim Durkin.
Student government students visited with Senator Pat McGuire and Rep. Natalie Manley during their time in Springfield, and were able to discuss the issue of MAP grants and the need to have a later deadline for application.
