The Joliet Junior College police department will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser in an effort to raise money for the Illinois Special Olympics on the Main Campus at 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet, Room A-1002, on April 30 from 3-7 p.m. Tickets are $7, and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Visitors have the option to dine in or carry out.
In addition to spaghetti, the dinner will include bread sticks, a salad, and dessert. For those who dine in, a beverage will be provided.
This fundraiser is a part of a bigger initiative put on by the JJC police department – and other police departments across the state – to help fund the Illinois Special Olympics games, hosted every summer in Normal, Ill.
“We are a part of the thousands of law enforcement officers throughout Illinois who carry the Flame of Hope for the more than 21,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities and more than 18,500 young athletes of Special Olympics,” said Chris Luttrell, JJC patrol officer.
Last year, the JJC police department raised $1,263 at the spaghetti dinner, and a total of $4,532 for Special Olympics through all fundraising efforts.
In addition to the spaghetti dinner, the JJC police department has also scheduled a “Hero’s Help” night on April 28. Ten percent of anyone’s bill at Hero’s West Sports Grill will be donated to the Special Olympics, as long as somebody mentions the JJC police department. Hero’s West Sports Grill is located at 1530 Commerce Lane in Joliet.
The JJC police department will host their next Special Olympics fundraiser, “Cop on a Rooftop,” on Friday, May 30. During this event, JJC police officers will camp out on the roof of Dunkin’ Donuts, located across from the college. Those who make a donation will get a free donut. Kids who attend can be a part of the “Touch a Truck,” event on that same day in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot. Vehicles will include squad cars, ATVs, a fire truck, and an ambulance.
