The Joliet Junior College Culinary Arts Department raised approximately $12,000 at its annual Spring Gala on April 25, bringing in $2,000 more than what was raised at last year’s event, according to Culinary Chair Mike McGreal.
The money raised will be used during the 2014-2015 academic year for student scholarships, faculty professional development, educational opportunities, and equipment for the department.
In addition to the gala, last September the department hosted its first Farm-to-Fork Dinner, an event that featured a five-course meal of locally grown food. Thanks to both of these events, the department is able to award a total of up to 35 student scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 next school year.
The JJC culinary scholarship winners will be chosen later this summer.
