JJC Library cardholders can now download a larger variety of e-books thanks to eRead Illinois.

In addition to the e-books, eRead Illinois will also help generate e-book expertise among library staff, library system staff and Illinois residents.

The Illinois Heartland Library System and the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS) partnered with the Illinois State Library and Baker & Taylor to provide this access. Initial funding for eRead Illinois at JJC was provided by a grant from Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White through the Illinois State Library.

The eRead Illinois program is hosted by digital media platform Axis 360. Axis 360 provides libraries and their patrons with a state-of-the-art system for circulating digital e-books from the eRead Illinois shared collection for Illinois libraries. Patrons at libraries participating in eRead Illinois will have access to cloud-based delivery across a number of devices including iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows, NOOK®, Sony ReaderTM devices and many more.

“RAILS selected Baker & Taylor’s Axis 360 platform for the eRead Illinois grant because of the breadth and depth of available titles, the flexibility of options to meet the diverse needs of our libraries across Illinois and the ADA compliance of the Baker & Taylor Blio eReader,” said Dee Brennan, RAILS executive director. “Equal access for all users in RAILS member libraries is very important to us.”

eRead Illinois’s Axis 360 collection publicly launched last December. Additional information on how to access the eRead Illinois shared collection available to JJC Library cardholders can be found at The JJC Library reference desk can also be reached at 815-280-2344.
