Families in the community can adopt dogs and cats through Joliet Junior College’s Veterinary Medical Technology Department from now until Friday, Dec. 5. All animals up for adoption will be up-to-date on vaccinations, and spayed/neutered by the time they go home. Each animal’s adoption fee is $35. Any animals not adopted by Dec. 5 will be returned to Joliet Township Animal Control.
JJC vet tech students have been working with these animals in their labs all semester. Vet tech students come out of the program with experience in administering medication, surgical skills, taking x-rays, nursing care and more. These animals have helped JJC students establish a foundation in veterinary studies.
The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that veterinary technicians are one of the fastest growing jobs, with a 30 percent job growth expectancy by 2020.
