JJC Honored with Excellence in Education Award from Reflejos

Joliet Junior College was honored with Reflejos Bilingual Journal’s 2014 ‘Reflecting Excellence’ award in Education in a special ceremony last month. The awards are given to institutions and businesses that are outstanding in their contributions to the Latino community, based on readers’ nominations and votes. JJC was one of five colleges to receive the education award.

Latino Student Support Specialist Martha Villegas Miranda, Student Trustee Brian Herrera and Director of Multicultural Student Affairs Michelle Roman-Garcia accepted the Reflejos Reflecting Excellence Award on behalf of the college.

“I am extremely honored and proud that the readers of Reflejos chose JJC to receive this award,” said Vice President of Student Development Dr. Yolanda Isaacs. “It is a reflection of the high quality services and programs we provide to help our students succeed, and it is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and faculty.”

Through the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, the college provides outreach, academic guidance, personal support, cultural resources, and leadership opportunities to enhance the educational experience and facilitate the academic and personal growth of underrepresented students.
