JJC Student Government members were presented with the Ed Synder Merit Book Award from the Illinois Community College Student Activities Association (ICCSAA) last month. JJC has attained this award for the past seven years, and was only one of six colleges in the state to receive the honor this year.
The merit book, encompassing the 2013-2014 school year, is a binder that documents student life at JJC and provides a detailed history of student life at the college. Inside its pages are articles from The Blazer, Student Government minutes and agendas, photos from student events, athlete accomplishments, and more.
To be eligible, the book must meet six criteria and have sections that involve student calendars, programming, surveys, leadership activities and more.
“This is a great tool for archiving. It’s like a big scrapbook of student involvement at JJC,” said Pam Dilday, director of student activities. “It’s really nice to have and great for when I have new students coming in, asking about student activities.”
The award was presented to JJC Student Government members at the ICCSAA Student Leadership Conference at Lewis and Clark Community College on Nov. 14.
