Community members can recycle household hazardous waste, old electronics, scrap metal, medical equipment and more during the Joliet Junior College and Will County event, Recyclepalooza, on Saturday, April 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on JJC’s Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.
This event encourages community members to recycle more than just paper, plastic, aluminum and glass.
Recyclepalooza was created as a safe place for the community to deposit household hazardous waste such as yard chemicals, paint, antifreeze, and other flammable chemicals, but also to collect reusable items like medical equipment, such as eyeglasses, crutches, and wheelchairs.
“JJC is always happy to partner with Will County for Recyclepalooza – an event that encourages sustainability throughout the community,” said JJC Sustainability Coordinator and professor Maria Rafac. “If you’re in the middle of your spring cleaning, and you find some things – maybe electronics you no longer use, or even old clothes – bring them to be recycled instead of throwing them away.”
Recyclepalooza will accept the following categories of items:
- Household hazardous waste
- Scrap metal
- Foam plastics
- Medical equipment
- Home goods
- Textiles (clothing)
