The Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Department will host “From Chicago to Chicago,” a choral masterworks spring concert featuring the JJC Chorale and Chamber Singers, on Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet. The choirs are under the direction of Philip Spencer, JJC professor of music.
Tickets are $5 for the public, $4 for students and seniors and $2 for JJC students. They can be purchased at the door one hour before the performance.
Music at the concert will include compositions by Georg Philipp Telemann, Giuseppe Verdi and Stephen Paulus; jazz arrangements including “Route 66,” “I’ll Be Seeing You,” and “Never Never Land,” from Peter Pan; and choral highlights from the popular Broadway musical, Chicago.
The JJC Chorale and Chamber Singers performed many of these compositions in the first Windy City Choral Festival at Orchestra Hall in Chicago on April 11.
The JJC Chorale is made up of 45 singers including JJC students and others in the community. There is no required audition to join.
The Chamber Singers is an auditioned ensemble that performs throughout the year at schools, churches, and civic organizations.
