The program, selected by Chorale Conductor Philip Spencer, will feature a variety of choral music for the holiday season. The major work will be “Midnight Mass for Christmas Eve” by the French Baroque composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier. This concert will feature student soloists and instrumentalists in addition to the 50-voice community choir.

The concert will also include a variety of interesting and entertaining holiday carols and anthems. In addition, the Chorale’s director will lead the audience in a jazzy, carol sing-along from the piano. Special musical guests will be the Bellissimo Handbell Choir from Plainfield United Methodist Church, directed by Kelly Markwell.

The conductor of the JJC Chorale, Philip Spencer, is Director of Choral and Vocal Music and Professor of Music in the Fine Arts Department. He earned a Master of Music degree from the Yale University School of Music, and has done doctoral study in choral conducting at the University of Iowa. In addition to conducting JJC’s two choral ensembles, Mr. Spencer teaches world music, and applied and class voice.

Chorale rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings, fall and spring, at the JJC Main Campus in K-1003, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Rehearsals for the spring semester will begin on Jan. 12.

Tickets are available at the Fine Arts Theatre Box Office one hour prior to the concert: $5.00 adults, $4.00 senior citizens, JJC faculty and staff, and non-JJC students; and $2.00 JJC students.
