Master Plan Projects Update December 2015

Work is progressing on the college’s three major Master Plan projects, all of which are due to open in 2017.

City Center Campus

The six-story, 96,000 square-foot City Center Campus, located at the corner of Chicago and Webster Streets in downtown Joliet, will house the following programs when completed: workforce development, GED/ESL training, adult education and culinary arts. The exterior of the building was completed in spring 2014, and the interior is scheduled to be complete by 2017.

As of December 2015, the following projects are either completed or in progress:

Completed:

  • Underground and rough plumbing
  • Rough above ceiling electrical
  • Duct work installation
  • Sprinkler piping at 6thfloor

In Progress:

  • Prepping for ground floor slab pour
  • Continuation of rough plumbing and electrical
  • Framing of metal stud walls/partitions
  • Continuation of ductwork installation
  • CWS & R piping fab and install
  • Installation of exhaust fan curbs

 

Romeoville Expansion

In the last 10 years, enrollment at Romeoville has grown 45 percent with current enrollment topping out at 4,000 students. The master plan calls for additional space for academic programs and student development services to respond to this growth. The 50,028 square-foot expansion, slated for completion in 2017, will include space for: student services, bookstore, cafeteria, classrooms, laboratories, space for campus police, and faculty and adjunct offices.

As of December 2015, the following projects are either completed or in progress:

Completed: 

  • The retention pond and mass excavation work is complete
  • All utility rerouting has been completed
  • 135thstreet entrance curb cut and entrance drive lanes are in place.

In Progress: 

  • Site utilities are 85% complete.
  • Concrete curbs in parking lot
  • Interior underground plumbing to begin.
  • Interior electrical home runs to begin.
  • Interior underground hydronic piping to begin.
  • Stone subbase for parking lots to be installed.

 

Multipurpose Center

The new building, which is being constructed on the southwest side of Main Campus adjacent to the athletic fields, will feature: two basketball courts, configuration options for competition basketball and volleyball tournaments, portable batting cages, three-lane indoor track, bleachers and seating (to accommodate both athletic competitions and graduation ceremonies), athletic staff office spaces,  presentation room and conditioning space. The 85,223 square-foot facility is slated to open in 2017.

  • Mass earth work
  • Concrete foundation work
  • Underground plumbing is 50% complete
  • Underground electrical is 75% complete
  • Temporary gas line to building

In Progress: 

  • Masonry block walls have started
  • Interior underground plumbing
  • Interior electrical
