Community Invited to Learn About Sustainability During JJC Earth Month Activities this April

Joliet Junior College invites the community to learn more about the importance of environmental health and sustainability by attending its Earth Month activities this April, which include an Earth Day Expo, a visit from speaker Dr. Rev. Terry Gallagher from Climate Reality, clean up days, sustainability tours and more, all taking place on the college’s Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet. These activities are free and many are hosted by the college’s Student Sustainability Union.

Kris Dubenic, JJC student sustainability worker, thinks it’s important for community members and students to attend because he predicts sustainability and protecting the environment are going to be an integral part of our country’s future.

“Environmental issues are becoming integrated into many different career paths, government and lifestyle choices,” he said. “JJC’s Earth Month activities will help to keep students, faculty, and our community active and current when it comes to environmental awareness. This month’s activities are also a great way to give back to the earth and to the community. ”

Attendees who visit JJC during Earth Month will have the opportunity to learn more about JJC’s sustainability efforts and what they, as community members, can do to become more environmentally friendly and sustainable in their daily lives, according to Dubenic.

One of the most interactive events during Earth Month will be this year’s Earth Day Expo, on Friday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the JJC Bridge. There, students and community members can meet local, environmental organizations, view the college’s Recycled Art Show, and enjoy crafts and free food.
