The Joliet Junior College Culinary Arts Department will host its fourth annual Farm-to-Fork Gourmet Dinner Saturday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet. This five-course meal is unique because the majority of the food will come from local sources, obtained from no more than 250 miles away.
Due to high demand, the 200 tickets available each year for the Farm-to-Fork Dinner have already sold out. However, to get on the department’s mailing list to be notified of future Culinary Arts fine dining events, contact Dori Miller at firstname.lastname@example.org.
From 4 to 5 p.m., there will be an hors d’Oeuvre reception and Farmers Market, where guests will have the chance to enjoy some pre-dinner treats and meet with some of the producers and farmers who supply the food for the evening. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
“This is one of our department’s favorite events of the year,” said Culinary Arts Department Chair Mike McGreal. “Not only do our guests get to enjoy food grown and produced in their communities, but our students learn about the value of working with high quality, in-season food coming from sources they know and understand. It’s an enjoyable night for everyone.”
Since produce can be in-season at variable times during the year, McGreal said the menu is still being decided, however, diners can expect to enjoy house-made charcuterie and artisan cheeses, fresh garden vegetables, grilled and barbecued meats, poultry and seafood, and an incredible county fair-themed dessert selection.
