The Joliet Junior College Faculty Union has awarded $7,900 in scholarships to local college-bound students this year.
“One of my favorite days of the year is the day we sit down to read applications for student scholarships and actually decide who is going to get what,” said Faculty Union President Bob Marcink. “As teachers we understand the role higher education can play in a person’s life. Knowing that we can help kick-start that process is gratifying to all of us in the JJC Fulltime Faculty Union.”
Students from the JJC service area and children of employees who can demonstrate they are enrolled in a post-secondary school—whether JJC or a four-year college—are eligible to apply. All applicants must fill out an application and write a short essay. Points are awarded based on various criteria including grades, extracurricular activities and community service.
This year’s scholarship winners are:
Anthony Brattoli of Tinley Park, IL $750
Joseph Crump of Joliet, IL $350
