Joliet Junior College’s Skilled Trades Career Fair welcomes all job seekers who have training, education or experience in the skilled trades industry to meet area employers on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. The fair will take place in the T-Concourse on Main Campus at 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.
“It’s exciting that this year we will have 40 or more employers at the Skilled Trades Fair that are looking to hire experienced and/or educated job seekers,” said Layton Cooper, JJC employer relations and internship coordinator. “I am really looking forward to having a great turnout of students, alumni, veterans, and community job seekers!”
Attendees should dress professionally and bring copies of their resume.
Cooper added that the fair is a perfect opportunity for job seekers to not only learn about local employers and career opportunities, but also to network.
Employers from a wide range of skilled trades fields will be available at the fair, from engineering to welding, automotive, and mechanical companies.
Careers in the skilled trades field are on the rise, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Manufacturing engineer positions, for example, should rise by 19 percent by 2020. Other positions, such as automotive repairers, will increase by 13 percent. According to the American Welding Society, there will be a need for more than 200,000 welders in the U.S. by 2020. These are only a few examples of many in-demand skilled trades careers.
