International Chinese Musician Yang Wei Comes to JJC on March 26

The Joliet Junior College Musica Viva Series presents “East Meets West” with international Chinese musician Yang Wei on Sunday, March 26 on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.

The concert is free and open to the public. Wei, an extraordinary virtuoso of the Pipa (Chinese lute), is a member of the world-renowned Silk Road Ensemble, founded and directed by the cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

“We are extremely honored to have such an internationally famous musical artist, Yang Wei, appearing on our JJC campus next month, thanks to the generosity of the JJC Foundation,” said Professor of Music Philip Spencer. “This not-to-be-missed concert for all ages and is offered at JJC in partnership with the Chinese Fine Arts Society of Chicago.”

The Joliet Junior College Musica Viva Concert series has provided excellent musical offerings to the college and community for many years, always free-of-charge. Typically held at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoons during the fall and spring semesters at JJC’s Main Campus, the series has featured outstanding national and international guest artists, JJC faculty and JJC alumni. For the 2016-2017 season, Musica Viva offers seven exciting concerts. The Musica Viva Concert series is generously supported by the JJC Foundation and members of the JJC community.
