Members of the community are invited to attend a collaborative choral masterworks concert by the JJC Chamber Singers and the JJC Chorale entitled “It’s About Time” on Sunday, April 30 at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.
The choirs, both under the direction of JJC Professor of Music Philip Spencer, will feature choral music from the 18th through the 21st centuries. Some of the musical selections of the afternoon will include themes like: “Times of Day,” “Times of the Year,” and “A Time to Live and a Time to Die.”
The first half of the program will be selections from the choirs’ recent appearance at the Windy City Choral Festival on March 18 at Orchestra Hall, Chicago. Other highlights of the program will include vocal jazz, American folksongs, spirituals and two original choral works by the choir’s conductor, Phillip Spencer.
In addition to the approximately 65 student and community singers, the concert will also feature JJC faculty and student soloists.
The JJC Chorale, a community choir, invites all people of high school age and older who enjoy singing to join them the beginning of the fall and/or spring semesters. No audition is required to join, prior singing experience is desirable, and the ability to read music is not required. Additional tenors and basses are especially welcome.
The JJC Chamber Singers is an auditioned choral ensemble that performs at the annual Madri Gala Feast in the fall and the Choral Masterworks Concert in the spring. As musical ambassadors of the college, the JJC Chamber Singers also perform for schools, churches, and civic organizations.
Tickets for the concert will be available at the door one hour before the performance. Tickets are $5 general, $4 seniors, JJC Faculty and staff, and non JJC students and $2 JJC students. For more information, contact the Fine Arts Office at (815) 280-2223 or go to www.jjc.edu/finearts.
