JJC to Host Annual Skilled Trades Career Fair on Oct. 25

Joliet Junior College’s Skilled Trades Career Fair welcomes all job seekers who have training, education or experience in the skilled trades industry to meet area employers on Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet. The fair will take place in the T-Concourse, with more than 20 employers participating.

The Skilled Trades Fair, pictured above, featured 25 career vendors and 200 participants in 2012.

“Employers from a wide range of skilled trades fields will be available at the fair, from engineering to welding, automotive and mechanical companies,” said Bridgett Larkin-Beene, JJC Director of Career Services. “I am really looking forward to having a great turnout of students, alumni and community job seekers at the fair!”

Larkin-Beene added that attendees should dress professionally and bring their resumes.

Careers in the skilled trades field are on the rise, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Manufacturing engineer positions, for example, should rise by 19 percent by 2020. Other positions, such as automotive repairers, will increase by 13 percent. According to the American Welding Society, there will be a need for more than 200,000 welders in the U.S. by 2020. These are only a few examples of many in-demand skilled trades careers.
